The Galling Stones Band Members (est. 2007)

Phillip Linford – Husband to a wife who outclasses him, father of 6 and grandfather of 2. Has played guitar since the age of 11, and plays several other instruments well. He’s also a hugger – so apologies if you meet him and are greeted in this fashion.

Joe Horton – married to Pat Jones, father of two sons and grandfather to 5. Grew up in California during the 60’s, became a major Beatles fan at age 10. English major who became a hospital administrator and spent 21 years running the Primary Children’s Hospital. Asked to form a classic rock band in 2007 for Intermountain Healthcare—The Galling Stones. Now a professor who loves his golden retriever and swimming every day.

Matt Weed – Started drumming at age 40. Drove his kids crazy with the noise, but his grandkids liked the drums. He worked his entire professional career in healthcare—mostly in Utah and New England. Hobbies include hiking, body surfing, skiing, biking, reading, and baking bread.

Doug Nielsen – A Utah native, Doug spent his first career in healthcare philanthropy.  His second career has him spending about 50 days each year in a sleeping bag in remote places fly fishing or backpacking. His favorite grown-up is Carolyn, his favorite little people are Brooklyn, Hildegard, Anna, Bendt, and Henry. His favorite music is by The Galling Stones and Bob Dylan.

Charles Sorenson – After 20 years of full-time practice as a busy surgeon, Charles served as Intermountain Health’s COO for 11 years and then 8 years as its President and CEO. Husband of one wife and best friend, father of four, Charles loves music and is grateful to be a part of our band. He says his best feature is that he enjoys hanging out with people who are much more expert than himself and that his membership in The Galling Stones provides very visible evidence of that.
