Deepika de Silva is the Senior Vice President and Science Officer at BioFire. Deepika de Silva is responsible for directing the Biochemistry Research and Development functions of the Company. She also leads the operations and manufacturing functions of the Company’s Bio-Reagents Division.

In the video and slides below, Deepika shares insights on women’s struggle for career opportunities and why it’s important to create a support system around female employees.

Dr. de Silva’s previous positions include Director of Life Sciences (2005-2007) and Director of Biochemistry (2000–2003) at BFDX, and Senior Scientist in the Genetics of Cancer Susceptibility Group at the International Agency for Research on Cancer, part of the World Health Organization (2003-2005). In her position with the World Health Organization, she was responsible for setting up and running a high-throughput sequencing and genotyping laboratory for the evaluation of genetic variations in support of global epidemiology studies related to cancer.

Dr. de Silva holds a B.Sc. (Hons) in Pharmacology from the University of London, King’s College, and a Ph.D. in Toxicology from Utah State University.
