SALT LAKE CITY (May 20, 2019) – Today, 33 businesses and organizations accepted the ElevateHer Challenge to elevate women in business, bringing the total number of businesses taking the corporate challenge sponsored by the Women’s Leadership Institute (WLI) to 229.
“Diversity is fundamental to the success of Western Governors University,” says Bonnie Pattee, Vice President, People & Talent at WGU. “We are committed to hiring, developing, mentoring, and recognizing women who are leaders across the university—in fact, over 60 percent of our leadership positions are filled by women, including over 40 percent of senior leaders.”
WGU is one of 33 new companies joining the ElevateHER Challenge in 2019.
“Our leadership as a transformational institution allows us to continue to elevate women in higher education across the nation,” said Pattee. “Taking the ElevateHER Challenge helps foster that.”
The ElevateHER Challenge was started by WLI in 2015 as a way to proactively engage organizations and businesses to focus on one or more of six key areas: women in senior leadership, adding women to boards, retention rates of women, monitoring the gender pay gap, mentorship programs and encouraging women to run for political office.
“The EleveateHER Challenge is ideal because it’s research-based and non-prescriptive,” said Patricia Jones, CEO of WLI. “The Challenge is very adaptable among a variety of company cultures. This lends well to success. We’ve seen how implementing this challenge can attract and retain talent and enhance return on investment.”
